Affected Products

In the interest of user safety, Makita (Australia) Pty Ltd is undertaking a recall of Makita Chainsaws with the model numbers DCS6401, DCS7301, DCS7900 & DCS7901 for a non-compliant chain brake function.
  • DCS6401 - 64cc 2 Stroke Pro Series Chainsaw
  • DCS7301 - 72.6cc 2 Stroke Pro Series Chainsaw
  • DCS7900 - 78.5cc 2 Stroke Pro Series Chainsaw
  • DCS7901 - 78.5cc 2 Stroke Pro Series Chainsaw

Defect

The chain brake operation does not comply with ISO 13772.

Hazard

Users may be injured by contact with the rotating chain if the chain brake does not activate when kickback is experienced.

What to do?

Makita recommends customers immediately stop using the chainsaw, drain any fuel/oil and take the tool to your nearest Authorised Makita Service Agent for a no charge repair of the chain brake mechanism.

Customers may also return the product to their place of purchase for repair to be arranged on their behalf.

EM2600L / EM2600U / ER2600L

Affected Products

In the interest of user safety, Makita (Australia) Pty Ltd is undertaking a recall of our EM2600L, EM2600U & ER2600L brushcutters due to a potential leaking fuel tank.
  • EM2600L - 25.7cc 2 Stroke Brushcutter Loop Handle
  • EM2600U - 25.7cc 2 Stroke Brushcutter U Handle
  • ER2600L - 25.7cc 2 Stroke Line Trimmer Loop Handle, Bent Shaft

With a production date range between 16.01 (2016 January) and 17.06 (2017 June)

Defect

The fuel tank seal & fuel lines may leak petrol.

Hazard

Leaking petrol is a fire hazard.

What to do?

Check the model and production date of your brushcutter (see illustration on right).

To assist you to identify if you have a product affected by this recall, please select your model number from the list below then enter your serial number. Alternatively you can contact Makita on 1300 361 690 between 8am and 5pm (AEST).

If the model and serial number is affected by this recall, stop using the tool immediately and carefully drain the fuel tank.

Take the tool to your nearest Makita Service Centre for a no charge replacement of the fuel tank seal & fuel lines, or contact us on 1300 361 690 and we can assist in arranging the repair at your closest Authorised Service Agent.

Defect

When cutting at a 45 degrees angle, the blade cover does not open fully. If it is forced open by the operator the blade cover may become stuck and expose the spinning blade.

Hazard

An exposed blade during use poses a serious injury risk.

What to do?

CCheck model and serial number of your saw (see the illustration below ). If the model and serial number of your saw is within the affected range – stop using the saw immediately.

Contact Makita on 1300 361 690 between 8am and 5pm weekdays to arrange repair by the nearest Authorised Makita Service Agent at no charge.
